Back in the days when we didn’t have skincare products readily available, women used DIY natural home remedies for healthy & glowing skin.
All skincare ingredients were available in the kitchen or the garden and there was no need to buy anything!
Here are some DIY home remedies that can work wonders for your skin.
DIY Facewash
You just need to have gram flour/besan, milk and fuller’s earth(also called multani mitti) at your home.
1 tbsp gram flour
1 tsp fuller’s earth
Mix these powders together and store in an airtight container for as long as you want (Make sure it’s kept dry at all times).
Add milk or water to make a paste when you want to wash your face.
Massage on your face and neck for 45 seconds and wash with lukewarm water.
However, if you are not into DIY recipes then you can look into this hydrating facewash with manuka honey, aloe vera and glycerin to give you the same glowing skin this summer.
DIY Exfoliator/scrub
Who doesn’t like an orange and citrusy scrub?
Save all your orange peels after eating oranges and collect them. Next step is to dry them under full scorching sunlight or heat them in an oven on110 degrees for 5 minutes or less until they are dried but not burnt. (I’ve had a bad experience of burning orange peels that’s why I prefer drying under the sun.
Now you need a grinder (yes the one you use in the kitchen to grind dry herbs and spices) to grind the orange peels into fine powder. It’s okay if you are not able to grind into fine powder but end up in grainy, lumpy and coarse powder because you can use a sieve and separate the hard grains from the fine powder easily.
How to use orange peel powder as a scrub?
1tbsp of orange peel powder
1 tsp milk or yoghurt to make a scrub like paste
Massage it on your face and neck for a minute and rinse with lukewarm water.
DIY Toner
You can use blended tomatoes and separate juice with sieve or strainer. You can store tomato juice in the fridge for 4 days and spray on your face for the extra brightening glow.
Alternatively, you can store tomato juice in ice cube trays to extend its shelf life. Just pop out one cube whenever you need and use it on your face.
DIY Moisturizer
A DIY moisturiser requires at least 7-8 ingredients and not every ingredient can be found in your kitchen easily. Hence it’s not going to be a simple recipe.
However, you can use aloe vera gel or few drops of a light oil like jojoba oil and massage into your skin.
If your skin is oily and oil doesn’t suit your skin then opt for this Skin Renewal night cream that is light weight and perfect for brightening your skin like anything.
